WRP Asia Pacific, the glovemaker accused by the US of "forced labour", has begun reimbursing workers for their recruitment fees.The move is part of an ongoing effort to reform the company in response to the allegation.The US had banned the import of rubber gloves produced by the company in October last year but the ban was lifted in March amid a shortage due to the Covid-19 pandemic.The company's foreign workers are being repaid a sum of between RM4,547 to RM16,054 over 30 months, according to Free Malaysia Today.“I paid around 120,000 Nepali rupees (around RM4,280) to an agency to get to Malaysia, and this (remediation programme) should be enough to repay that in full.“I am very happy. I got RM140 last week and in total, I will be getting RM4,547.“The payments from WRP will be made every three months, and as my contract is expiring in April 2021, WRP said they will bank in the balance before I leave," a worker was quoted as saying.Imposing a hefty recruitment fee on foreign workers has been a common practice in the exploitation of foreign workers.The hefty fees often leave them deep in debt and bound to their employers to pay off what they owe.





















The company's law firm Thomas Philip Advocates and Solicitors was also quoted as saying that WRP Asia Pacific is committed to making good on the payments.
