A Bukit Aman police officer and a woman, believed to be his girlfriend, were found with gunshot wounds in a house in Taman Cantik, Cheras, this morning.

The 25-year-old cop was attached to the police headquarter's special integrated investigation team, while the woman is believed to be a foreigner in her 20s.

According to news reports, they were found inside a rented room on the first floor of a flat unit, after the cop's brother failed to reach him and alerted the police.

The duo had gunshot wounds and a gun - a Steyr M6 issued by the government to the police force - was found in the woman's hand.

Berita Harian Online quoted KL police chief Amar Singh Ishar Singh as saying that the case is believed to be murder-cum suicide.

"Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the motive of the incident and who shot who first. We are also trying to find out how the woman was related to the man.

"The case is being investigated for murder, as well as sudden death," he had said.

The couple's remains had been taken to the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital (HUKM) for a post-mortem.
