COMMENT | Strong third force needed to challenge political system

COMMENT | Since the Pakatan Harapan coalition took over the government, there has been a glaring silence on fundamental human rights issues in Parliament.

PKR and DAP, once vocal advocates for reforms, now appear to have abandoned their promises and gone silent on fundamental human rights issues.

Critical concerns such as equality in opportunities for the marginalised Indian community, deaths in custody, extrajudicial killings, freedom of speech and assembly, and police abuses are no longer being raised - neither in Parliament nor to the government by elected representatives.

There seems to be a culture of deliberate blind obedience - to safeguard their well-entrenched privileged status and positions in government.
