Lanterns are lit and oranges thrown into the river for Chap Goh Meh, which marks the final day of Chinese New Year celebrations.
The Hokkien terms refers to the 15th day of the first month, or the first full moon of the new year in the Chinese calendar.
Chap Goh Meh is also considered the Chinese Valentine's Day – when single women inscribe their names and telephone numbers on oranges, which are thrown into the river in pursuit of true love.
