Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad officiated a new outlet of lifestyle bakery and bistro The Loaf at Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur on January 22, 2008.
Mahathir had ventured into the Japanese bakery business as part of his retirement plan.
However, Mahathir had since 2016 reentered active politics in a bid to oust Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. He now leads Pakatan Harapan.
All 12 of The Loaf outlets abruptly closed down on Friday.
Mahathir claimed he had tried to sell the business to raise funds for the 14th general election but the taxmen went after his potential buyer.
