Wilayah Persekutuan Mufti Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri performs the "Rukyah Hilal Syawal", the sighting of the new moon to determine the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan at Kuala Lumpur Tower on May 26, 2017.
The sighting marks the start of a new month in the Islamic calendar, this time the month of Ramadan when Muslims fast during daylight hours and devote themselves to religious obligations.
Malaysians also look forward to the month as it sees the mushrooming of food bazaars, serving up an array of delectable delights in time for breaking fast feasts at dusk.
In Terengganu this year, the state will seal all food premises which operate outside permitted hours during the month of Ramadan.
