Anwar Ibrahim, who became prime minister more than two decades after his unceremonious sacking from the government, has promised to deliver the reforms expected of him.
He said Malaysia will “go to the dogs” if the government does not implement measures to bring change.
In an interview with Al-Jazeera English’s ‘101 East’ programme, the Pakatan Harapan chairperson said his political allies also recognise that there is a dire need for reform.
“Do they (parties in the coalition government) agree the central problem is the issue of good governance? Yes (they agree).
“Do they agree that corruption has been endemic in this country? Yes,” he added.

Should DAP apologise to Umno?
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his number two Mohamad Hasan offered differing views on the call for DAP to apologise to Umno for the allegations hurled against it in the past.
The Umno president dismissed the need for this, saying the differences were resolved during the negotiations to form the Pakatan Harapan-BN federal government, in which the two foes have become allies.
“In fact, during the negotiations to form the central government, matters (about race and religion) became the main condition for us, and DAP agreed 100 percent,” he added.
However, Mohamad said since DAP had apologised to the Sarawak state government, it could do the same with Umno.
“This is a good suggestion. If DAP is magnanimous, it can apologise to Umno,” he added.
Both Zahid and Mohamad were commenting on newly elected Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh’s call for DAP to make a public apology to Umno.

Don’t blame the media
DAP national chairperson Lim Guan Eng has criticised Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for blaming the media over the report that he wanted the Federal Constitution to be amended to support his claim that “Penang belongs to Kedah”.
Lim said if the news report was untrue, the PAS leader should have issued an immediate denial or correction instead of waiting for a week until the police called him for questioning.
“Why did he wait seven days to make a correction? He only made the correction when he was investigated by the police.
“I believe Sanusi is saying this because he cannot answer the police’s questions in their investigation,” he added.
