So, PAS has finally decided to show its true colors by throwing its weight behind the Taliban and its iron fisted rule of millions of suffering Afghans. All their talk on religious freedom under the banner of PAS in Malaysia now seems hollow.
On a personal note, Nik Aziz is someone that has over the years won my support due to his moderation and amplification of the fairness of Islamic rule. His recent call to arms however only drives home a very important point, that he is only a politician, albeit one using religion as his sword, who cares not for justice or logic, but for political mileage. What a massive letdown.
What astounds me is PAS' ability to discount the sufferings of millions of Afghan women and children under the ridiculous rules established by Mullah Omar and his band of extremists. Is this how an Islamic nation is supposed to be run?
As long as the many moderate Muslims continue to allow the likes of Nik Aziz, Osama bin Laden and Mullah Omar to tarnish the good reputation of their faith, then they too are guilty of playing a part in the fall of the name of their religion.
Make no mistake, you reap what you sow. Why cry that the West and the rest brand Islam as a religion that condones terrorism? Look at the bare facts.
The gathering of PAS supporters at the American embassy was a real eye opener. It tells me that PAS, in its effort to gain political mileage is willing to risk everything millions of Malaysians have inspired to do - to build a nation.
It calls for an end to diplomatic relationships between Malaysia and the US smacks of irrational pride, not understanding that the livelihoods of millions of Malaysians depend on those very ties.
Perhaps it is their first step towards instituting a Taliban-like regime in Malaysia. Alas, the destruction of our economy and the social fibre of our society.
