Covid-19 (Jan 20): 3,764 cases, highest in 3 weeks

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 3,764 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,820,927.

The fresh infections today is the highest in 21 days, since Dec 30.

They were more than the number of Covid-19 patients who recovered, which totalled 3,254. This is expected to contribute to a rise in the number of active cases.

However, the number of hospital admissions of confirmed Covid-19 patients in the last seven days have declined by 21.4 percent compared to the preceding week.

Currently, only Malacca is experiencing a Covid-19 hospital bed utilisation rate of above 80 percent.

  • Patients in ICU: 160
  • Intubated: 72

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 19.2 percent lower compared to a week ago.

Those who require intubation have also declined by 22.6 percent from a week ago.

To date, 214 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including 17 new clusters reported today.

The ongoing clusters have seen an increase of 20.2 percent from the 178 active clusters a week ago.

The breakdown of new cases according to states will only be published after midnight. The figures for yesterday (Jan 19), where 3,229 new cases were reported, are as follow:
