The Health Ministry today reported 5,726 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative cases to 2,444,224.

The new case count has been trending down gradually since late-August and is now at levels not seen since mid-May.

As of yesterday, the R-naught for the country was 0.86. A R-naught of less than 1.00 is desirable because it would suggest that the spread of Covid-19 was decelerating.

At a state level, every state has a R-naught of less than 1.00.

There are 598 confirmed or suspected Covid-19 patients requiring intensive care of which 308 require ventilator support.

The number of Covid-19 patients requiring intensive care has been trending down throughout the country, except in Sarawak.

Daily admission of Covid-19 patients over the past seven days is down 19 percent compared to the preceding week.

However, admission is up in Terengganu (+37 percent) and Penang (+27 percent).

Hospital bed use by Covid-19 patients is generally trending down throughout the country over the past month except in Sarawak where it has remain relatively stable.

The Health Ministry is currently monitoring 506 active Covid-19 clusters, down 20.2 percent from a week ago.
