Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Abdul Hamid Bador has denied claims that the police force is being used as a tool to support the Perikatan Nasional government.“Anyone can make guesses, criticisms, assumptions and insinuate anything just to portray the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) as a tool for the government.“I repeat, I am firm in my stand that whatever action that was taken by my side, has nothing to do with politics.“Before this, some were saying that the PDRM had taken action against opposition leaders, whether in the past or now,” Hamid said during a press conference at Bukit Aman today.He was responding to a question about Pakatan Harapan’s claim that the PN administration was using government agencies including the PDRM as a <a href="https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/565479" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">political weapon</a> in order to shore up its support.On March 5, Harapan had claimed that there were attempts to use government agencies to pressure opposition MPs to throw their support behind PN.The Harapan presidential council claimed they were made to understand that the police force, the MACC and the Inland Revenue Board were among the agencies which were made into “political tools” targeting opposition MPs, their officers and their families.However, Hamid explained that if they were to call in anyone for questioning and it happened to be a political leader, it is merely to record their statement based on reports that were lodged.He also added that it does not matter what crime the report is about, the police will open investigation papers if they find any element of wrongdoing, and the individuals involved will be called in.“Action will be taken in a very professional situation. I will not allow any threats or offers made to them when their statements are being recorded.“And my people will suggest a suitable date and location to record their statements,” he said.Hamid also dismissed claims that the police are trying to intimidate by making it mandatory for them to give their statements at the police station.He said that was done so that the process can be carried out simply and quickly.He also advised politicians not to break the law when it involves political activity because there will be others who will lodge police reports if they feel slighted.“I’m sure politicians can do any activity they want related to politics but do not break the law because there will be some who will feel slighted and they will lodge police reports when those issues are raised.“Racial overtones which fall under the Sedition Act or accusations or any other crimes under the Penal Code.





















“So don’t. Avoid them. Let us carry this responsibility together. Don’t let this duty fall upon only the frontliners from the police, the military and the People’s Volunteers Corps (Rela),” he said.
