Acting secretary-general of MCA Youth today dismissed as a "laughing stock", the three-person committee headed by his sacked predecessor to challenge the findings on the fracas at the wing's annual general meeting three months ago.
Liow Tiong Lai said the members of the committee were interested members who were one way or another involved in the Aug 3 AGM which was marred by punches, 'flying chairs' and a bomb scare that turned out to be a hoax.
Liow also commented on a VCD of the fracas, which had been circulating among party members.
He said, Youth chief Ong Tee Keat released a VCD early this month with the intention to clarify a "distorted" version of the fracas recorded in another VCD that was circulated by an unknown group in late October.
"The VCD contained serious accusations and distorted facts. That is why Ong decided to release a full version without any censorship, narration and alteration," Liow told reporters at the Parliament lobby.
"The VCD will show what happened in the AGM. We will leave it to the members to decide," he added, saying that the decision to circulate the VCDs was made on Oct 25.
Central committee endorsement
Yesterday, a three-member committee headed by Yew Teong Look was formed to challenge the findings of an investigating committee initiated by its rival group in the fracas.
Yew, who is also Federal Territory MCA Youth chief, said he would be assisted by Johor Youth deputy chief Chun Yoon Fook and Terengganu Youth chairperson CY Toh.
Denouncing the findings as "false reports" that were unfair to him and the members, Yew criticised Ong for rejecting their request for a central committee meeting, the last of which was four months ago.
The trio had wanted the central committee to endorse their appointment as without it, any action on their part would lack representation.
Perak Youth chief Ho Cheng Wang also questioned the accuracy of the findings which had been circulated among party members.
He said these were unscrupulous tactics used by Youth chairperson Ong to influence party members before the results of the co-ordinating committee chaired by six veterans are out.
He accused Ong of being disrespectful of the six veterans, the parent body and all MCA members.
The six veterans are MCA general assembly speaker Dr Wee Khoon Hock, former vice-president and secretary-general Kam Woon Wah, former Negeri Sembilan state chief Wong Seng Chow, former vice-president and former ambassador to the United States Lew Sip Hon, former vice-president Chan Kit Chee and former organising secretary Wang Choon Wing.
