Police have questioned Muslim preacher Ebit Lew due to a backlash over his aid work which some viewed as showing off.Bukit Aman CID chief Huzir Mohamed said this is despite Lew having permission to carry out his aid work.He said, however, no investigation paper had been opened against Lew (above).Lew, who is known for his welfare work, stirred controversy after delivering aid to an impoverished family in Derga, Kedah recently.This is after netizens attacked the family's neighbours for allegedly ignoring their plight.However, it later emerged that the family received regular aid from the Kedah Zakat Board and the state government.Following this, Lew became the target of vitriol for allegedly sensationalising the issue.He was then called in for questioning by Bukit Aman's Special Branch."The reason he was called in was due to public reaction to his posting of welfare activities on social media during the movement control order period," Huzir said in a statement today.Huzir said police had given Lew permission to operate during the MCO and had not stopped him as long as he followed the Health Ministry and Social Welfare Department's guidelines.Earlier, Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir clarified that none of his aides or anyone in his administration had lodged a report against Lew.

Bukit Aman CID chief, however, says there is no investigation paper against Ebit Lew.
