Covid-19 death toll now 15

CORONAVIRUS | The Health Ministry has reported yet another death caused by Covid-19, bringing the death toll to 15.

According to Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the victim, aged 71, is referred to as Patient 1,519.

Patient 1,519 was believed to have had contact with Patient 703, who attended the tabligh gathering at a mosque in Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur late last month.

Hisham said Patient 1,519 developed chronic symptoms and was warded at Sultanah Fatimah specialist hospital in Muar, Johor on March 18.

The patient died at 5.35am today.

Yesterday, the Health Ministry said there were 212 new Covid-19 infections - the biggest single-day increase so far.

As of 5pm yesterday, Malaysia had 1,518 confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection and 159 people have been discharged.

Of the 15 deaths attributed to Covid-19, nine belong to what is now known as the Sri Petaling cluster.
