Azwanddin charged with giving speech 'intent to cause May 13 fear'

Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) president Azwanddin Hamzah today pleaded not guilty in the Ampang Magistrate's Court to a charge of making a speech with the intention of creating fear among the public about a repeat of the race riots of May 13, 1969.

In his speech, Azwanddin (above), 47, is alleged to have made a statement expressing the intention of repeating the May 13, 1969 incident.

The businessperson is alleged to have committed the crime in a media room at NTH Media, 11th Floor, Menara A Pandan Capital, Pandan Indah, at 2pm on Nov 21, 2018.

He has been charged with, among others, having the intention of causing fear or panic among the public, under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code which carries a maximum penalty of imprisonment for two years or a fine or both. The charge includes inducing a member of the public to commit an offence against public order.

Bail was set by magistrate Normaizan Rahim at RM5,000 with one surety, and March 13 has been fixed for the next mention of the case.
