Malaysia's consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.7 percent between January to December 2019, according to the Department of Statistics.

This is the second year in a row where the CPI growth was less than one percent.

The DOS calculates the CPI by monitoring prices from 12 baskets of goods and services.

Meanwhile, the DOS said the CPI rose by one percent in December last year to 122.3 against 121.1 in December 2018.

Every month, the CPI rose 0.2 percent when compared to November last year.

"Among the index of goods which recorded price increases in most states were small onion (30.7 percent), garlic (25.3 percent), big onion (21.7 percent) and cucumber (19.7 percent)," said the DOS.
