Bersatu will decide on the fate of its Selangor state assemblyperson, who was arrested for drugs abuse last week after the court makes its decision on the man's case.

Party chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad told this to the media today when asked if Adhif Syan Abdullah, who is also Selangor Bersatu Youth chief, would be called before party disciplinary committee over the issue.

"We will wait for the (court) decision. Party has the right to take action. But we cannot presume that they are guilty without the court of law arriving to a decision first," Mahathir said during a press conference at Albukhari Foundation in Kuala Lumpur today.

Adhif (below) was among 17 individuals, including six women, picked up in a raid at a condominium along Jalan Puchong in the wee hours last weekend.

Preliminary urine test results came back with 16 of them tested positive with drugs.

Following the incident, Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman had made a decision in a party meeting to suspend Adhif's position in the wing until police concluded its investigation.

Meanwhile, Mahathir informed the press that Bersatu will hold its annual general meeting from June 25 to June 28 this year.

According to him, a total of 363,167 Bersatu members from 189 divisions nationwide would be involved in the party election.

Mahathir said the number was small as Bersatu had carried out cleansing process in the party.

"The figure looks small as we had conducted pemutihan, (cleansing) that is why. Among the reasons was late registration, late reporting to the headquarters, failure to pay membership fees. All these are normal," he said.

On new dates for meetings at the branch and divisional levels, Mahathir said they will be carried out between Feb 15 and March 29 for branches, while all divisions would be holding theirs on April 18.
