MACC chief Latheefa Koya claimed that a criminal conspiracy has been set in motion against her following her disclosure of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s phone conversations.

She said her special officer will lodge a police report tomorrow morning on this issue, and hand over evidence of the alleged plot.

“I wish to send a clear message to those who are behind this, that I will not be threatened or intimidated from carrying out my duty as the chief commissioner of the MACC.

“The public has placed great faith in the MACC to cleanse our country from the scourge of corruption. I intend to carry out this duty, no matter what personal attacks or threats are made against me, now or in future,” Latheefa said in a statement today.

She claimed that the plot was a response to the nine phone conversations that she disclosed at a press conference last Wednesday, and would fabricate and distribute materials intended to cast a slur on her personal reputation.

“We believe that a lawyer is among the culprits involved in this plot,” Latheefa said, without revealing further details of the plot.

Last week, the MACC released several audio recordings of telephone conversations purportedly between Najib and several others in 2016 on 1MDB.

Among the conversations allegedly included calls with his wife Rosmah Mansor, former MACC chief Dzulkifli Ahmad, and high-ranking United Arab Emirate figures.
