Azmin assures that he will not leave PKR

PKR AGM | PKR deputy president Azmin Ali (above) has given his assurance that he and his supporters in PKR will not be leaving the party.

Azmin wrote this in his Twitter account today, about an hour after PKR president Anwar Ibrahim's concluding address to the party congress.

In a separate Tweet at about 1pm today, prior to Anwar's speech, Azmin wrote that he still recognised the latter as the party leader.

"I need to negotiate and talk to him. I will do that and I will continue to do so," he wrote.

Azmin and most of the central leadership council (MPP) members aligned to him did not attend the congress today.

Earlier in the morning, when it was clear that Azmin was not at the venue, he tweeted a reference to Anwar's speech yesterday.

"Because of this traitor, this party was built over the past 20 years," wrote Azmin.

This was likely a reference to an analogous portion of Anwar's speech where he spoke about Si Kitol and Raja Mendeliar betraying the Malacca sultanate in 1511, paving way for a Portuguese invasion.

Yesterday, Azmin and his supporters appeared to have taken that analogy personally, alongside veiled criticism by speakers at the congress.

This led to a walkout by Azmin and his supporters.

Although Azmin did not attend the congress today, he is expected to address supporters at the Renaissance Hotel in Kuala Lumpur tonight.
