DAP disciplinary committee chairperson Chong Chieng Jen has rubbished the one-week ultimatum given by Bersatu's youth wing and its head Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman for action to be taken against Sungai Pelek assemblyperson Ronnie Liu.

"The threat of open attack against all DAP leaders is most unbecoming, immature and counter-productive to a united Pakatan Harapan government," said Chong in a statement today.

"I wish to reiterate that DAP is a party of discipline and will not compromise on any act of indiscipline amongst our members. We have a high standard of discipline and our internal procedure to enforce such discipline.

"Whilst we are open for public to lodge a complaint against an act of indiscipline committed by any of our members, we wish to clearly state that no one should dictate the manner and timeframe involved for us to discipline our members."

Yesterday, Syed Saddiq had said in a Facebook post that Bersatu's youth wing gave one week for Liu to apologise for his remarks in a recent statement, or for the DAP disciplinary committee to take action.

In the statement, Liu had criticised Mahathir's performance and suggested that if the Bersatu chairperson attempted to break up Harapan, the remaining parties could still retain the government without Bersatu.

Chong, who is also Stampin MP, confirmed that the disciplinary committee has received a complaint against Liu’s statements, which were published by media outlets on Oct 22.

The statements in question are “Mahathir: The Paper Tiger”, which was published in Malaysiakini, and “Ronnie Liu takes a swipe at Dr M, says Pakatan will still be fine without Bersatu”, which was published in The Star.

"The disciplinary committee has already started the process to deal with this complaint…[It] wishes to put on record our dismay on the ultimatum issued by Syed Saddiq and his Armada team which is most unwarranted and should not be repeated.

"We have all worked hard to win the GE14 and form this government not on our own but made possible by the strong people of Malaysia.

"Let’s channel our energy and effort to deliver the reforms which we have promised to make Malaysia a better and stronger country instead of being distracted by indiscipline and immaturity within the Pakatan Harapan coalition," said Chong.
