1. PKR president Anwar Ibrahim expressed his confidence that he will be the next prime minister, even though the handover date has yet to be discussed.

2. Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) chief Mohd Zakaria Ahmad announced that police are tracking down 21 lawyers for the breach of trust and cheating offences involving RM30.4 million in losses.

3. Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has decided to retain P Waythamoorthy in his cabinet for the time being, he said, when questioned over whether the outcome of the inquest into firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim's death would affect the minister's position.

4. Pakatan Harapan’s election committee chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin announced he will chair a meeting in Muar on Friday (today) to discuss the coalition's candidate and strategy for the forthcoming Tanjung Piai by-election.

He said Harapan will apply lessons learned from previous by-election losses as it prepares for the Nov 16 voting for the parliamentary seat.

5. Umno supreme council member Lokman Adam has mooted that BN maintains the status quo in Tanjung Piai and lets MCA contest the by-election next month, saying it would show whether voters would support a non-Malay candidate from the opposition.

6. The High Court in Kuala Lumpur dismissed Pekan Umno's application to stay a forfeiture suit against it, pending its appeal at the Court of Appeal.

Judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali ruled there were no special circumstances that merited a stay.

7. Umno has announced that it will be moving its annual general meeting (AGM) to December to avoid clashing with the Tanjung Piai by-election on Nov 16, party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

8. Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak remained unfazed despite a police report lodged against him for linking a Facebook posting disrespecting Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Nga Kor Ming.

8. Hong Kong anti-government demonstrators clashed with police into the early hours of yesterday (Thursday), venting their anger over a policeman's shooting and wounding of a teenager earlier in the week, as months of protests showed no sign of letting up.
