1. Youths no longer have the luxury of being mere armchair critics, said former minister Rafidah Aziz.

In her speech to some 500 participants at a students' summit in Kuala Lumpur, Rafidah warned against social media’s potential to trigger destruction within a nation and beyond.

"Everyone who is a stakeholder in this country has an interest to make sure Malaysia functions and succeeds."

 2. PAS and Umno announced plans to hold a series of speeches nationwide which will build up to a mega-rally in Kuala Lumpur to show their solidarity for the country.

"Never in history did we witness such an ugly relationship among the Chinese, Malays, and Indians," said Umno Youth leader Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, laying the blame on Pakatan Harapan and DAP in particular.

3. Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad surprised folks in Putrajaya when he decided to go on an 11km morning bicycle ride today.

The prime minister grinned broadly and acknowledged passers-by who were surprised to see the 94-year-old leader on a casual ride.

4. Police have arrested and secured a four-day remand against a security guard who made a death threat against lawyer Syahredzan Johan after the latter called for preacher Zakir Naik's permanent resident status to be revoked.

5. Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok said the operating licence for the Lynas Malaysia rare earth plant in Gebeng, Kuantan, has been extended for six months, but with conditions.

"Isn't that enough to tell you that we gave a chance to Lynas to improve and fulfil the conditions?" she said.

6. Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin has called on Malaysians to sign a petition calling for a ban on Chinese educationists' group Dong Zong, which he claimed was racist.

7. Namibian High Commissioner to Malaysia Anne Namakau Mutelo alleged that she was subjected to rude treatment by an immigration officer at KLIA on Aug 12 while trying to secure the release of her two nephews who were kept in detention for over three hours.

8. A coalition of Pakatan Harapan Indian youths and non-governmental organisations have formed a special task force to work on solutions and address the unfulfilled election manifesto for the Indian community.
