The two suspects who were arrested for allegedly planting explosive devices at the sidewalk near the Royal Thai Police headquarters in Rama I Road in Bangkok on Thursday evening had travelled to Malaysia several times, according to Thai police.

Immigration Bureau chief Sompong Chingduang said travel records and security camera footage at the Narathiwat Immigration checkpoint showed that the two suspects from Narathiwat had crossed the border before.

“We found travel records of the suspects. We also have footage clearly showing their faces,” he told the media today.

The two suspects were arrested in Chumphon on Friday. The explosive devices which they planted were found and defused by the police.

A series of small explosions at five locations in the capital city on Friday left four people injured.

The two men have been detained for seven days until Aug 8 to facilitate investigations.

However, Sompong declined to say when the suspects travelled to Malaysia and whether they were accompanied by anyone.

He said Thai police chief Chakthip Chaijinda had instructed immigration officials to tighten security checks at all entry points in the country.
