Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (above) has urged Lim Kit Siang to leave Malaysia after the veteran DAP leader urged Indian-national Zakir Naik to do so.

Zakir, who is wanted in his home country for money laundering charges, is currently taking refuge in Malaysia. The authorities have no plan to deport him.

In a statement today, Ahmad Fadhli accused Lim of objecting to Zakir's proselytisation efforts on non-Muslims in Malaysia.

Ahmad Fadhli said Lim was acting against the Federal Constitution by objecting to Zakir's right to preach to non-Muslims.

Lim's statement, which references an open letter by writer Anas Zubedy, does not make such a claim and instead says Zakir's modus operandi of using "comparative religious debates" was unsuitable for multi-ethnic Malaysia.

On the topic of "comparative religious debates", Ahmad Fadhli said it was up to the listener to accept Zakir's methods or not.

"As a country which places Islam as the religion of the federation, there is no reason to say Zakir's approach is inappropriate for the country.

"If there is anyone who should leave the country, it is Lim Kit Siang, who has failed to understand the Federal Constitution, and not Zakir Naik.

"Malaysia will benefit from this person (Lim) being no longer in Malaysia," he said.
