S'gor MB wants authorities to act against sex video 'mastermind'

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari has urged the authorities to take action against the political leader accused of being the mastermind behind the sex video implicating Economic Affairs Minister Mohd Azmin Ali.

Speaking to reporters in Shah Alam this morning, Amirudin said the authorities must act without taking into account the status or position of the individual.

“However, justice must be given to the person (accused) to defend himself if he believes that he has not done anything wrong,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.

Amiruddin, who is Selangor PKR chief, was commenting on Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador's statement yesterday on the existence of a “wicked pact” behind the sex video.

According to the police chief, a “leader of a political party” has been identified as being the mastermind to “embarrass and tarnish the reputation of the minister”.

Hamid also claimed that hundreds of thousands of ringgit were spent on producing the sex video.

Previously, nine people have been remanded in connection with the case, including PKR president Anwar Ibrahim's political aide and former Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz.

Haziq had confessed to being the person in the video showing two men engaging in sexual acts. He claimed that the other person was Azmin.

Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, has maintained that the video is a nefarious attempt to ruin his political career. He is also convinced that it is an inside job.

Anwar has denied any involvement in the matter.

Meanwhile, Amiruddin also welcomed Hamid's statement that the facial recognition process had failed to link Azmin to the video.

“Alhamdulillah (Thank God), everything has been revealed. Let us not continue this. We should move on,” said the menteri besar.

In his statement yesterday, the police chief said Cybersecurity Malaysia found that it was “highly probable” that the video was authentic but the facial recognition process was negative.
