The husband of a woman who died in Pasir Gudang yesterday said he is hurt by fake news attributing his wife's death to pollution in the area.

A Bakar Abd Rahman said his wife, Marini Kasman, 38, died due to heart failure after being admitted to the Sultan Ismail Hospital in Johor Bahru.

"I ask everyone to stop spreading fake news and I will take legal action against anyone who spreads fake news (about my wife)," Bakar was quoted as saying by Kosmo.

"My wife did have asthma, and a day before she died, she complained about difficulty breathing before I brought her to the hospital.

"Doctors said her blood pressure was very high, and there was fluid in her lungs and a lack of oxygen before she passed away at 4am," he said.

Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said Marini had been suffering from chronic illnesses for the past 10 years, including hypertension.

He said the cause of death was due to decompensated heart failure.

Dzulkefly added that medical records showed that the woman did not receive any treatment during the Sungai Kim Kim pollution incident in March, nor since June 20 when cases of children with breathing difficulties were reported.

The Pasir Gudang district is facing a new wave of cases involving breathing difficulties.

Today, 11 schoolchildren from four different schools in the district were reported to have fallen ill.

However, unlike the Sungai Kim Kim incident in March, the cause of the current problem has yet to be determined.
