Members of Parliament will not be able to raise the sex videos implicating Economic Affairs Minister in the next Dewan Rakyat sitting, which commences on July 1.

Dewan Rakyat speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof said it is against Parliament rules to discuss issues that are still being investigated by the police.

“Such issues can’t be raised during the Parliament sitting as it could affect the investigation process,” he told reporters, according to the Sun Daily.

Yesterday, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang asked if MPs would be focused on this issue during the 18-day sitting, instead of the Independent Public Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC).

“Are we going to allow the July Parliament to follow the opposition dictates to be obsessed with the sex video, or can Pakatan Harapan MPs turn it into the most historic parliamentary session of the Pakatan Harapan government where we begin to deliver the promises of a New Malaysia which had inspired Malaysians to bring about the historic peaceful and democratic change on May 9, 2018?” he asked.

Taking to Twitter, former law minister Zaid Ibrahim described the speaker's ruling as strange.

“Speaker not allowing MPs to speak on sex video.

“Strange ruling, but nothing surprising. The ban should not prohibit MPs to talk about sex, or video generally, so long as Azmin is not mentioned,” he added.

Azmin has described the sex videos, which were revealed by unknown individuals, as a nefarious plot to destroy his political career.

Both the police and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) are investigating the issue.
