Relocation or not, Fuziah wants Lynas to deal with waste in Gebeng
ADS

It is mandatory for rare earth processing plant Lynas Malaysia Sdn Bhd to solve the problem of its waste in Gebeng despite moving its operations to other countries.

Pahang Pakatan Harapan chairperson Fuziah Salleh said Lynas must also be responsible over the welfare of its workers and respect their rights if they terminate their operations here.

"It is mandatory that Lynas solve the problems of waste in Gebeng if they are to move. It is their responsibility," she said in a statement today.

"Leaving Malaysia does not mean they do not have to settle the problem of a large amount of waste here.

"They can leave Malaysia, but must be responsible for their workers and their waste."

Fuziah, who is also Kuantan MP, said this when commenting on a news report that Lynas had signed a memorandum of understanding with Texas-based Blue Line Corp to build a new factory there.

The action was allegedly due to the company being directed to remove its waste before its licence, which would end on Sep 2, could be renewed.
