PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli has reflected on the state of Malaysian politics following the outcome of the Ukranian presidential elections.

Exit polls showed that Volodymyr Zelenskiy won a landslide victory defeating incumbent president Petro Poroshenko, who has conceded defeat.

Ironically, Zelenskiy, 41, is best known for starring in a satirical television series in which his character accidentally becomes Ukrainian president.

“A comedian who played Ukrainian president on a popular comedy show won a landslide to become a real Ukrainian president.

“Hypothesis: politics has become a big joke that comedians become good politicians,” tweeted Rafizi this afternoon.

The PKR leader suggested that someone should test the hypothesis in Malaysia.

“A comedy abt politicians soon?” he added.

Responding to Rafizi, Bersatu strategist Rais Husin tweeted: “I think we already have many comedians who are helming political positions here (Malaysia).”

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail congratulated Zelenskiy on winning the polls.

“I am confident that relations between Ukraine and Malaysia will further develop in the spirit of friendship and mutually beneficial partnership in the interests of the people of our countries,” she said in a Twitter posting.

Speaking to journalists after announcing his victory, Zelenskiy said the outcome was a symbol of political change for other countries in the region.

"I am not yet officially the president, but as a citizen of Ukraine, I can say to all countries in the post-Soviet Union, look at us. Anything is possible!" he added.
