Amanah's Morib assemblyperson Hasnul Baharuddin has denied being a bankrupt, after a notice of insolvency served by the Shah Alam High Court was published in a newspaper on Monday.

According to Free Malaysia Today (FMT), Hasnul claimed that Bank Islam and its lawyer had erred in issuing the notice, and have promised to cancel it.

"I'm not a bankrupt. The concerned asset is a shoplot I bought in 1999. The location of the property became unstrategic after the developer changed the layout of the area.

"It is currently not occupied and cannot even be rented out. It has been auctioned off, but the bank and its lawyers issued the court document, due to oversight," Hasnul was quoted as saying.

He insisted that the bank has pledged to cancel the notice.

Hasnul also revealed the search results from the Insolvency Department’s website to FMT, which showed that he is not listed as a bankrupt.

Social media was abuzz with a screenshot of the insolvency notice, which was issued on April 4, 2019.

According to Election Commission rules, an MP or an assemblyperson will automatically be disqualified from holding the post, when declared bankrupt.
