LETTER | How much is a life worth? Apparently, you can hit and run - crash your car about 1km down the road, leave two people injured and one fighting for her life, get picked up by a friend to avoid getting caught for your heinous crime, only to be tracked down later by the police. 

Your crash resulted in the death of our friend and injured two other runners and yet, the courts postpone your sentence.

Evelyn Ang, was a daughter, sister, and wife, who had her whole life ahead of her cut short because an 29-year-old boy wasn’t man enough to help out after knocking her down.

Where is the justice in our system, when three marathon runners are hit, and one of them dies?

Over a year later, the driver involved in the hit and run is still walking around, while the court system continues to postpone one date after the next. 

We are appalled, hurt, and cannot believe the legal system, which we respect, is still yet to make a decision and bring justice to this case.

Families, friends and Evelyn’s community members are destroyed due to the biggest decision this man could have made to possibly change the outcome. Getting behind the wheel in a state obviously not fit enough to drive (trust me, I have seen the CCTV footage) and injuring three innocent people in the wake of your bad decision. 

They were taking part in the Klang City International Marathon in 2017. It's now 2019 and you are still on our streets, you are still getting to live your life, while the rest of us wait.

We ask for justice, so what does this look like? Justice not only for these three runners but for all of us. 

Why would you want someone out on your streets who drives away from an accident that they had caused? What if that was your sister, mother, brother, father, child? Would you not want justice? If he is sentenced and given the minimum jail time, will you be happy to have him driving on your streets in 18 months or two years time?

He chose not to do the right thing. The court system has allowed him to continue to live his life as normal. Where is the justice? He should be locked up for a long time, we don't need road users like him killing our friends and family. We want justice to be served.
