Yoursay: MCA, MIC should have booted Umno out of BN
ADS

YOURSAY | ‘Breaking up is hard to do, so they say, and MCA is never serious.’

BN supreme council meet ends without consensus to dissolve

Evin K: No consensus to dissolve BN? Even if MCA and MIC leave BN, Umno is never going to dissolve BN, and why should they?

They will just wait for other political partners to join. The fact of the matter is that MCA and MIC have no leverage in any of these negotiations, because they simply don’t have the numbers to demand anything.

They can’t possibly win by-elections because Umno will not risk losing another seat by allowing MCA and MIC to field their candidates, as was apparent in Cameron Highlands, especially now that they know they can win with their recent marriage to PAS.

MCA and MIC don’t have enough number of members to secure wins, but they do still have members, and all this adds up to votes for the opposition.

Umno-PAS must find a way to continue to appease MCA-MIC for these additional votes. It’s a calculated game of chess – MCA-MIC checked Umno, and Umno had to give up their knight, Nazri Abdul Aziz, to stay in the game.

Acting Umno president Mohamad Hasan seems to be able to hold it together after Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s departure.

Now with the announcement of Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor as the rightful secretary-general, MCA-MIC got what they wanted, which is to show their members that they will not stand for being made to feel like second-class coalition members.

They can go back to their people with this win and say that they still wield some control because they did the impossible – they got Umno to sideline Nazri.

Clever Voter: Breaking up is hard to do, so they say, and MCA is never serious. Taken their words in entirety, both MCA and MIC were articulating their aspirations and not true intent.

Indeed, not many had taken their words seriously.

Lodestar: MCA and MIC have very little support from the communities they purport to represent.

If they want to win seats, they will have to depend on BN's Malay support. One or two seats is better than zero because that will keep the flame burning.

Or do they want to be like Gerakan which hasn't won any seats for a long time and probably never will? Gerakan will eventually become like MyPPP, which no one knows or cares whether it's dead or alive.

MCA president Wee Ka Siong would not have won his precious parliamentary seat (Ayer Hitam) without BN's Malay support. In short, MCA and MIC need Umno more than the reverse.

MIC, at least, has some sense but if MCA wants to go into the wilderness, they are welcome to go dig their own grave.

Simple Malaysian: All this has been nothing but sandiwara (shadow play). The main aim is to feed Pakatan Harapan with one distraction after another.

It’s time to forget them and concentrate on resolving people's problems and issues. Minor fires will erupt along the way, but if Harapan wishes to remain in power, the focus should be on attending to the people’s woes.

Odysseus: MCA/MIC, please don't play games with the rakyat. We are not stupid to not understand your game plan.

Umno needs the two little partners to deliver some non-Malay votes while these two need Umno’s generosity to help them win a few seats. All three need one another but dare not admit it.

Furthermore, none has the guts to quit the coalition, like Gerakan and East Malaysian parties.

Anonymous 1538808416: This is actually good news for Harapan.

With Umno-PAS alliance and MCA and MIC staying put in BN, soon both MCA and MIC will lose all their supporters to Harapan, as it is unlikely that their supporters will accept conservative Islamic party like PAS.

This will lend Harapan higher non-Malay support, and this is bad for BN. With 46 percent non-Malay voters in Rantau, Harapan just needs a minimum of 10 percent of Malay votes to win.

Kamikasi: All the best to MCA and MIC. Both of you are still the best material for Umno's punching bag.

By the way, do you still believe Najib did not steal and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang did not lie?

Also, if you intend to play maids to both parties, please do. There is no need to involve DAP.

'Moving on' can also mean expelling Umno from BN - source

Anonymous_49d8b96c: MCA and MIC have been behaving like battered wives who still want to cling to their abusive partner, Umno. Why still hang around with BN?

MIC and MCA can form a new party. Forget BN 2.0 without Umno. The "leave lah” remarks and responses by Nazri are loud and clear – MCA is useless to Umno.

Enough, MCA 2.0. Be specific and absolute. Don't hide behind phrases with dual meanings, such as "moving on," just like the last resolution passed to “dissolve” BN.

Fork-tongued speech is still at play with MCA. Does “moving on” mean that MCA leaves BN, or is MCA to dissolve BN or remove Umno from BN? Which one is correct?

Retnam: If they can kick out Umno from BN, the new BN with MCA and MIC and perhaps another new Malay party can become a force to be reckoned with.

This is because they would have cut out the tumour known as Umno from BN.

Myviews: Yes, that seems to be a good move since the present Umno leadership is hell-bent on teaming up with PAS without a care for its original partners from the Alliance days.

Encourage the East Malaysian parties, especially those from Sarawak, to join. There are also some good Umno members who can become direct members of the 'new' coalition.

That way, the country can at least see the emergence of a two-party state like in some of the established countries in the world.

Quigonbond: Somehow, I'm not holding my breath. Outside any alliance with Umno, MCA and MIC will be reduced to PSM’s level, and self-serving politicians will not want that.
