The MACC is reportedly investigating PAS’ donors and supporters over the claim that the Islamist party received RM90 million in alleged 1MDB-linked funds.

The Malaysian Insight quoted a high-ranking MACC source saying that the private accounts of “businesspeople and socialites” who regularly donated money to PAS were among those being probed.

“There is a possibility that the monies were channelled from the personal accounts of those being investigated to the party.

“This is the focus of our investigation for now,” the source was quoted as saying.

Sources previously told Malaysiakini that MACC investigators did not find any 1MDB-linked money credited to PAS’ accounts, but would continue to probe the accounts of party leaders.

Since beginning its investigation on Feb 6, the anti-graft agency has recorded statements from its central committee member Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz and former party leader Nasharudin Mat Isa.

It has also recorded a statement from prominent lawyer Ambiga Sreenevasan, who was named as the source of the allegation of the funds being channelled into PAS' accounts.

MACC began its probe after PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang withdrew his defamation suit against Clare Rewcastle-Brown, the editor of whistleblower site Sarawak Report.

He had sued her in a London court over an article alleging the Islamist party received RM90 million back in 2016 in return for its support of BN and Umno.
