The government will leave all options open, including setting up a royal commission of inquiry, on action to be taken following an allegation made by a Court of Appeal judge on judicial misconduct.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Liew Vui Keong said today that the government viewed the allegation made by judge Hamid Sultan Abu Backer as “very, very serious,” as it affected the judiciary.
“I understand that the judiciary lodged a police report over the allegations made by the judge (Hamid), and I believe investigations will be carried out soon. So, we will wait for that (the outcome of the investigation).
“We will not leave any stone unturned (in the investigation). There will be no cover-up,” he told Bernama when met after an event in Sandakan.
On Feb 14, Hamid in a 63-page affidavit revealed detailed information in relation to numerous incidents of interference within the judiciary, including in the late Karpal Singh’s sedition appeal.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the government will study the proposal to establish an RCI into the claim of judicial misconduct.
