The MACC has detained an officer working with the Treasury's deputy secretary-general for alleged corruption.

An MACC source told Malaysiakini said the 39-year old officer was arrested at 6.50pm yesterday after coming to MACC's Putrajaya office to give a statement.

The source confirmed that the officer worked with the Treasury's deputy secretary-general.

This morning, MACC had obtained a five-day remand for the officer from Magistrate Ahmad Afiq Hasan at the Putrajaya Magistrates' Court.

The source said that the officer was accused of demanding and receiving an RM1.5 million bribe from a company in exchange for a contract.

The bribe was allegedly demanded from a property agent in order to secure the deputy secretary-general's approval for an application which involved the selling of Malaysian government assets in Hong Kong.

The officer, who allegedly committed the offence at the end of last year, is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
