The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry has set up a task force to investigate the existence of a syndicate offering digital business courses using multi-level marketing (MLM) as disclosed by a newspaper.

Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail in a statement today said the ministry’s enforcement division had taken statements from witnesses involved with several addresses and companies identified masterminding the syndicate.

Investigations were being carried out under Section 27B of the Direct Sales Act and Section 4 (1) Anti-Pyramid Scheme Act 1993 and Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, he said.

The minister added that 10 officers were directly involved in the investigation.

He advised the public to be careful not to engage in such schemes and asked those with relevant information to contact the Enforcement Command Centre at 03-88826088.
