Khalid reveals 'irregularities' in two projects on gov't land

Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad today revealed alleged irregularities and abuse of power pertaining to the construction of two buildings to be carried out on government-owned land in Kuala Lumpur.

He said it involved the Kompleks Tun Abdul Ghafar Baba on Jalan Kuchai Jaya 1, in Petaling, and Kompleks Yayasan Wangsa Perdana’s Dewan Shazac Bistari on Jalan Gombak, in Setapak.

He said the 0.32ha of land that had been earmarked for the Tun Abdul Ghafar complex had obtained a development order on April 25, 2017.

The 0.29ha of land for Dewan Shazac Bistari, meanwhile, had yet to receive such an order.

Developers of both buildings have been given until the end of February to contact him to discuss a possible solution, he said during a special meeting with the media in Putrajaya today.

“We also take into account the opinions of the local population to find an appropriate solution,” he said, adding that among these solutions is for the government to take over both buildings.

Khalid noted that the current market value of both plots of land was between RM500 and RM600psf.

Khalid said he would continue to collect evidence, which is expected to be submitted to the MACC after Chinese New Year.

Asked whether the officers responsible in approving the construction of the buildings would face action, he said he would investigate the matter before making any decision, as some of these officers had already retired.
