CAMERON POLLS | The outcome of the Cameron Highlands by-election symbolises a rejection of DAP's ‘extreme’ brand of politics, said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

"DAP and Pakatan Harapan's defeat is a sign of the people's rejection towards the Harapan government's failure to fulfill their promises.

"It is also a sign that the people reject DAP's culture of extreme politics," Hadi said in a statement tonight.

BN candidate Ramli Mohd Nor beat Pakatan Harapan's M Manogaran with a 3,238-vote majority in today's by-election.

PAS had campaigned heavily for BN in Cameron Highlands, with Hadi saying it was wajib (obligatory) for Muslims to vote for BN.

Hadi said tonight that the victory was a positive development for co-operation among opposition parties.

Previously in the 14th general election (GE14), PAS and BN were on opposing sides.

BN won the Cameron Highlands seat on May 9 last year with a slim majority of 597 votes.

Tonight's results indicate that PAS supporters voted for BN this time around.

PAS bagged 3,587 votes in Cameron Highlands during GE14.

The vote share for today's by-election compared to GE14 is as follows:
