Selangor Pakatan Harapan yesterday decided to field a candidate from Bersatu in Semenyih state seat in the March 2 by-election, said state's Bersatu chief Abdul Rashid Asari (pix).

The decision was made at a meeting chaired by Selangor Harapan chairperson Amirudin Shari, who is also the state menteri besar, reported New Straits Times (NST).

He, however, was tight lipped on the potential candidates for the seat.

“It has been agreed by Selangor Harapan that the candidate should be from Bersatu.

"Of course, I have a few names in mind, but I cannot disclose them until Bersatu’s leadership makes a decision. I have submitted the names to them,” said Abdul Rashid.

Selangor Harapan also discussed the preparation for the Semenyih by-election at length, he said.

It was reported that Bersatu had shortlisted its candidates and Abdul Rashid said the potential candidates had joined the party since its formation and they are all locals.

The Semenyih state seat in Selangor fell vacant after its incumbent, Bersatu's Bakhtiar Mohd Nor, died on Jan 11.

Bakhtiar had wrested the seat from BN in a four-cornered fight on May 9.

He bagged 23,428 votes to secure a 8,964-vote majority.

PAS has said that it would make way for BN to contest in the by-election as the latter had more support in the constituency.

PSM's S Arutchelvan may also vie for the seat again.

Nomination day for Semenyih by-election has been fixed on Feb 16.
