The Semenyih by-election will be held on March 2, with the nomination date fixed for Feb 16.

Election Commission chief Azhar Harun said early voting will be held on Feb 26. Campaigning will last for two weeks.

Azhar said the by-election will use the third-quarter 2018 electoral roll, which has 54,503 voters in the constituency.

"For this by-election, the EC targets a 70 percent turnout," he said.

The EC will also be adding one voting centre and 31 new voting streams to facilitate the high number of voters in the constituency.

The Semenyih state seat in Selangor fell vacant after its incumbent, Bersatu's Bakhtiar Mohd Nor, died last week.

Bakhtiar had wrested the seat from BN in a four-cornered fight on May 9.

He bagged 23,428 votes to secure a 8,964-vote majority.

PAS has said that it would make way for BN to contest in the by-election as the latter had more support in the constituency.

PSM's S Arutchelvan may also vie for the seat again.
