The Bersatu assemblyperson for Semenyih, Mohd Bakhtiar Mohd Nor, died early this morning, believed to be from a heart attack.

This was confirmed by Borhan Aman Shah, the political secretary to Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.

Borhan said in a statement that Mohd Bakhtiar, 56, was pronounced dead at Kajang Hospital at 4.45am.

"His remains will be taken to his family's house at Jalan Sungai Lalang, Semenyih.

"A final prayer will be conducted at Kampung Pasir Mosque, Semenyih, after Friday prayers today. His remains will then be taken to the Kampung Pasir cemetery.

"Condolences to the family of Mohd Bakhtiar. May Allah bless his soul and place him among the good people," Borhan said in the statement.

In the 14th general election last May, Mohd Bakhtiar won the Semenyih state seat by defeating three other candidates.

He bagged 23,428 votes against Umno's Johan Abd Aziz (14,464 votes), PAS' Mad Shahmidur Mat Kosim (6,966 votes) and PSM's S Arutchelvan (1,293 votes).

A loss to S'gor Harapan

Meanwhile, Amirudin also expressed his condolences in a statement to Mohd Bakhtiar's family over their loss.

The menteri besar said the assemblyperson's death was also a loss to Selangor Pakatan Harapan, as he was a Hulu Langat Bersatu division chief who had played an "important role" in the state ruling coalition.

"Allahyarham was a representative who had been very concerned and committed in fighting for the welfare of the people in Semenyih.

"He also often made time to discuss initiatives for Semenyih residents with me and state exco members. He was also a member of the local government select committee at the state assembly level.

"As the Hulu Langat Bersatu division chief, the late assemblyperson had played an important role in Selangor Harapan. I wish to extend my condolences to his family and hope that they will be given the strength to go through this test," Amirudin said.
