CAMERON POLLS | Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa has decried the claim that the Cameron Highlands by-election playing field is uneven, further alleging that the polls would see Pakatan Harapan commit “daylight robbery.”

Annuar was responding to DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang saying that it would be a "miracle" if Harapan wins the Jan 26 by-election.

"A miracle? With opposition hands tied, accounts frozen, incumbent disqualified, (Election Commission) chief a political appointee, government machinery at Harapan's disposal, and 'political donations' by the millions… no way (will it be) a miracle, Lim, but it is going to be a daylight robbery!" Annuar tweeted.

The issues raised by the Ketereh MP are similar to complaints by Harapan lawmakers when BN was in power.

Lim, in a speech on New Year's eve, said that DAP would be the underdog in Cameron Highlands by-election.

However, he was hopeful in saying that Malaysia is now in the "era of miracles" ever since Harapan ended Umno's 61-year rule.

The Cameron Highlands by-election comes after the Election Court declared the seat vacant in its ruling that vote-buying had led to MIC vice-president C Sivarraajh’s win in the 14th general election.

MIC chose not to appeal the decision, and the EC later announced a by-election, setting Jan 12 as nomination day and Jan 26 as polling day.

Last week, the EC disqualified Sivarraajh from contesting or voting in polls for five years.

In GE14, he won the seat in a five-cornered fight with 10,307 votes – just 597 more than Harapan candidate M Manogaran.
