Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar said today that the letter written to her by de facto Islamic affairs minister Mujahid Yusof Rawa was inappropriate.

"Good intentions notwithstanding, I have actually informed (Mujahid) the public letter was inappropriate and condescending. Best we all focus on real issues," she tweeted today.

Nurul Izzah was responding to an article in which Mujahid said her response to his letter was a "secret,"

On Tuesday, Mujahid had published an open letter to the PKR leader, telling her that she was needed to help build new Malaysia.

This followed her move to resign as PKR vice-president and its Penang state chief.

In the letter, Mujahid addressed himself using the classical Malay term "kekanda" (older sibling) and Nurul Izzah as "adinda" (younger sibling).

The letter became the butt of many jokes on social media, including by a fast-food chain.

“I never thought it would become trendy, it is an honest letter written from a senior to a junior, as my family and Anwar Ibrahim's have been close from a long time ago," Mujahid was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times today.

He also said it was not unusual for him to use classical language, and had done so even in Parliament before.

He lamented how the contents of the letter were lost due to the sensationalising of his use of "kekanda" and "adinda."
