Kit Siang sees great challenge in school reforms

DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's plan to reform the school syllabus will be one of the country's "greatest challenges."

Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching denied claims that she was including DAP's history in the History syllabus, pointing out that the syllabus revision was carried out last year under the previous administration.

Mahathir called on the private sector to offer jobs to army veterans.

Rafizi wants return of managed float

PKR leader Rafizi Ramli called on the Pakatan Harapan government to reintroduce the managed float system for fuel prices following a steep drop in global oil prices.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said the budget may need to be revised if the oil price falls below US$50 per barrel.

He also announced that the Tabung Harapan fund, which will be closed on Dec 31, has collected RM199 million.

Volcano tsunami kills hundreds

A tsunami triggered by the eruption of Anak Krakatau claimed at least 222 lives, with the death toll expected to rise.

Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said Malaysia is prepared to extend assistance to Indonesia after the tsunami.

To date, no Malaysians have been reported to be among the victims in the disaster.

Some 2,000 Sabahans residing in Peninsular Malaysia submitted their membership forms to join Bersatu.

Five loggers were allegedly kidnapped by Indonesian soldiers near the Serian-Kalimantan border in Sarawak.
