It is a tradition that come the end of December, Malaysiakini takes its readers through the best and the worst news of the year.

This year is truly historic  – the first time Malaysia sees a change in regime since Merdeka.

Not surprisingly, many of the top news are related to this unprecedented event – from Dr Mahathir Mohamad becoming prime minister for the second time at the age of 92 to a new cabinet which includes a number of politicians who were once jailed by him.

Like last year, we are letting Malaysiakini readers decide the top 10 headline- grabbers for 2018. There are 18 major news breaks listed in alphabetical order for this year’s vote.

Voting is done by showing your preference for each item - ‘0' being the lowest and ‘10' the highest. You can give the same score for more than one item or individual.

Go ahead. Take one last look at 2018 before we move on to possibly an even more exciting 2019.

And, don't forget to also vote for the Newsmaker of the Year.

A quick recap - a newsmaker does not necessarily have to be the most popular individual. He or she is one whose actions consistently makes news headlines, and in doing so, affects the course of public discourse and creates an impact on Malaysian politics, for better or for worse.

We have selected 15 candidates for you to pick.

Everyone is entitled to one vote.

Voting ends at midnight, Dec 26, and the results will be announced over two consecutive days beginning Dec 28.
