KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Singapore vs M'sia encroachment debate rages on

Malaysia can measure the Johor Bahru port limits to find out if the country's authorities have encroached into Singapore's territorial waters, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said.

Singapore then reiterated that the purported extension of the Johor Bahru port does encroach into its waters around Tuas.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke also disputed Singapore’s claim, saying the altered port limits are well within Malaysia’s territorial sea border.

On another matter, Loke said Malaysia will not take a confrontational approach in handling the encroachment into the Pasir Gudang airspace by the new Instrument Landing System (ILS) used by Singapore’s Seletar Airport.

Meanwhile, Singapore Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan said both Singapore and Malaysia should continue to discuss both airspace and maritime encroachment issues constructively.

Guan Eng slams Hadi over Icerd rally remark

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng slammed PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang for saying that the gathering against the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Icerd) was necessary because non-Muslim MPs outnumbered Muslim MPs in Parliament.

The gathering’s programme director Kamaruzaman Mohamad said it is not aimed at other races, instead, at “traitors” of the country who attempt to defile the Federal Constitution.

Kamaruzaman confirmed that former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak will be attending the rally on Saturday, and invited Mahathir and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim to follow suit.

The PAS-controlled Kelantan government has declared Dec 9 as “cuti peristiwa” (occasional holiday) for the state in view of the anti-Icerd gathering to be held in Kuala Lumpur the day before.

Another rally is scheduled to be held on Saturday, in Petaling Jaya – the Human Rights Commission’s (Suhakam) Human Rights Day 2018 event, to be launched by Mahathir.
