The Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Hamad Al Thani arrived in Malaysia this evening for a three-day working visit.

The aircraft carrying the King and his delegation arrived at the Bunga Raya Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) here at 7.24 pm

Sheikh Tamim, who ascended to the throne on June 25, 2013, as the eighth Emir of Qatar, was greeted on arrival by the Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah.

The Foreign Ministry in a statement said the visit marked the first official meeting between the Sheikh Tamim and Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad since the change of Malaysian leadership in May this year.

It said the visit would provide an excellent opportunity for both leaders to discuss bilateral matters, as well as exchange views on a range of international issues of common concern and mutual interests.

According to the ministry, Sheikh Tamim will also attend the 3rd Sheikh Tamim Anti-Corruption International Excellence Award in Putrajaya on Friday.

Sheikh Tamim made his maiden state visit to Malaysia in October last year.
