BFM 89.9 has engaged an independent party to assist its investigation into allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct at the station.

Malek Ali, the founder of the radio station, said some of those accused of impropriety have already been engaged, and that a number of employees have taken a leave of absence pending the probe.

"Since the formal investigative process is underway, there are restrictions on what we can publicly announce during the proceedings.

"Until more information comes to light, we do not wish to make statements that may compromise the investigation and cause further distress to our staff," he said in a statement today.

Malek reiterated that the allegations currently being circulated were upsetting and distressing for all at BFM.

He also assured that the radio station prioritises the welfare of its employees and took all allegations seriously.

Last week, several news organisations received an anonymous letter from a purported former employee who claimed that there were attempts to cover up cases of sexual harassment by the management of BFM.

Malek had set up BFM as a business-focused radio station in 2008.
