De facto National Unity Minister P Waythamoorthy today said that the federal and Selangor governments are working closely to resolve land matters relating to the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman in Subang Jaya.

He also opined that a new committee should be set up to oversee the administration of the temple.

"There is a general consensus among the Malaysian Indian community, that both competing chairpersons of the said temple should be relieved of the management of the temple, and a public-oriented committee comprising of various legitimate stakeholders be set up to oversee the administration of the temple," the minister said in a statement today.

Waythamoorthy also noted that the Malaysian Hindu Sangam's proposal to act as mediator is unnecessary, as both the federal and state governments are intervening in the matter.

One City Development Sdn Bhd is the legal owner of the land on which the temple is located.

The company was accused of hiring a group of men to seize the temple by force on the morning of Nov 26, which escalated into two consecutive nights of rioting outside the grounds.

Police have arrested a group of men who were allegedly paid between RM150 and RM300 to seize the temple. 

Several rioters and One City employees were also arrested.
