AG offers to mediate in Seafield temple consent judgment

Attorney-General Tommy Thomas has offered to play mediator in the matter of the consent order pertaining to the relocation of the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in USJ25, Subang Jaya.

The legal teams representing the temple task force group and the developer who owns the land will go back to the Shah Alam High Court today as they have different interpretations of a judgment given yesterday.

Haniff Khatri Abdulla, the lawyer for the developer, One City Development, said Philippines-based Ayala Corporation, which is One City's parent company, has promised to cooperate in investigations into the unrest over the status of the temple.

The Petaling Jaya Magistrate's Court issued remand orders against 10 individuals to assist the investigation into the riots, bringing the number of those in custody in regard to the matter to 30.

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari assured the people that the temple would not be demolished until a resolution is reached sometime next year.

OSA documents to be declassified for Najib, Irwan trial

Senior lawyer Gopal Sri Ram said several documents under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) would be declassified so that they can be used in the joint criminal breach of trust trial of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and former Treasury secretary-general Irwan Serigar Abdullah.

Najib, after about a week of silence, said he turned away Edge Media Group chairperson Tong Kooi Ong who told him about wrongdoing in 1MDB in 2015 as he doubted the proof that Tong presented to him.

Najib also questioned Khazanah Nasional Berhad's sale of a 16 percent stake in IHH Healthcare Berhad to Japan's Mitsui & Co for RM8.42 billion.

Meanwhile, the superyacht Equanimity, purportedly purchased by fugitive businessperson Jho Low using funds allegedly misappropriated from 1MDB, has received expressions of interest from the US, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, after being put up for auction.

Hasanah Abdul Hamid, the former director of the Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation during Najib's administration, sought for her bank accounts to be unfrozen as she faces a criminal breach of trust charge involving US$12.1 million in government funds.
